Out of Box Drivers Network share RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello

Is there a way for me not to inject all drivers into the image I create?  I currently have all my drivers on our network and would like the Deployment Workbench to point to the share on the network instead of having all drivers in the image.

I am creating a windows 7 x64 image with all windows updates etc, but the drivers themselves are over 52GB (for all our current machines).

    Thank you in advance

    Terry

  • I do not think you can have the Out-of-Box drivers separate from the rest of the MDT components.  Looking at the ZTIDrivers.wsf script, it appears when it evaluates a driver variable (DriverGroup001, etc.) it evaluates it as a local location, not as possibly being a network location.

  • Yes, the recommended guidance for MDT and/or SCCM is to *NOT* place drivers into the base WIM image (There are exceptions, but only under SPECIFIC scenarios).

Instead #CREATE# your image on a VM (without any 3rd party drivers), and then use MDT and/or SCCM to #DEPLOY# your WIM image to the machine along with the drivers. Sometimes people create two separate MDT deployment shares, one for creating the image (OS + Apps) , and one for deployment( Image + Drivers)

I have created custom solutions for some clients to

  • Yes,

Just use Johan's Total Control method and MDT will only inject the drivers needed for the system you are deploying to. It saves time and bandwidth.
