"Application Virtualization Service" does not start after restart

    Question

  • On some clients, I have problem with "Application Virtualization Service". Sometimes service does not start automatically after reboot. When I try to start it manually

Error 1114: A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed.

"Kb 931096" looks similar to this problem. We are using Mcafee. But it says, this problem has been corrected after v3 (We are using v4.6).

And also, on some clients, after I have installed App-V client, service does not start unless an administrator logs on. If I try to start service, same error occurs.

  • Shot in the dark but you could try installing the App-V client before the Mcafee client?

  • I think it is impossible, re-formatting 3000 clients.

Better idea, start App-V service before Mcafee service. (I don't know how to set this.)

  • Hello,

Have you verified if the problem still occurs on a client that temporarily has the McAfee software removed?

  • Is the Administrators group a member of the users group? If not try adding that in.

  • I will uninstall Mcafee and test it for a week.

And also, in dependencies tab of the sftlist service; I see sftfs->sftvol and sftplay, which are have a "computer" icon .What are these, and how these dependencies work? I think, these can help me.

I saw that, If a user is logged on to the computer, and the sftlist service could not start at startup, I could not start the service. If the user logs off, I can start it remotely. Then user logs on and can execute streamed apps.

  • Did you by chance, deploy the client MSI seperately from the pre-requisites?

  • I do not think this is because of installation. Because, sometimes service starts after reboot, sometimes it does not. If service starts, everything is ok. As a workaround, If I see a stopped service, user logs off, I start service remotely, then logs on again.

  • Problem is quite unusual and related to your install process sequence.  What the issue is is hard to say, but certainly related.  Following on the McAffee thoughts -- this would only be an issue if McAffee is misconfigured and blocking App-V in unwanted ways.

  • I have set boot logging on some of our clients. When I check ntbtlog file, I saw that there is a log like that:

    Did not load driver \SystemRoot\system32\DRIVERS\Sftredirxp.sys

I am not sure but It looks like, If this log is in ntbtlog, then service does not start automatically. Is there any information about this file?

  • Hello,

Is there something else interfering loading of this driver?

  • @serdar-- I was getting an error while installing APP-V client after the installation of McAfee through the SCCM TS. the code was 80070643. it get solved when position was changed.

McAfee, i think block some ports which the APP-V Client uses. Hence it will reduce the functionality of the APP-V Client.

I think it's same like declaring an environment variable before the installation of the APP-V Client. The variable doesnot works if declared after installing APP-V Client.
