SPF Record

    Question

  • Hi,

We have planned to create SPF record in of our domain abc.com

    Abc.com MX record is

    Mail1.abc.com resolves to 203.6.164.5

    Mail2.abc.com resolves to 203.6.164.6

We have trusted domain xyz.com we need to allow all mails from xyz.com to abc.com

    Xyz.com MX record is

    Mail6.xyz.com resolves to 143.8.156.5

Could you please help us which is correct one to create TXT record for SPF

    abc.com.  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx ip4:203.6.164.0/28 include: Mail6.xyz.com -all"

    abc.com.  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx ip4:203.6.164.0/28 include: 143.8.156.5. -all"

    abc.com.  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx a ip4: 203.6.164.5 a: 203.6.164.6 include: 143.8.156.5 -all"

    Thanks & Regards, Kumar N

  • Hello Kumar,

For your expectation, you can try to create two SPF record, one for abc.com, other for xyz.com.
    For example:
    abc.com  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx:abc.com -include:xyz.com -all"
    xyz.com IN TXT "v=spf1 mx:xyz.com -all"

More details about understand SPF record.

We have trusted domain xyz.com we need to allow all mails from xyz.com to abc.com

For those values you should use:

    abc.com.  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx a -all"

"Include" field is used when other domain's servers are used to send emails for your domain. If emails from domain xyz.com are sent by abc.com servers, you should include them in SPF record of xyz.com: "include:abc.com".

  • Hi Robert,

Yes, other domain server's (XYZ.com) will use to send my domain (abc.com) so I used "include" field.

    My query is

    1. From "Include" field, I would like to use IP address instead of domain name.

    2. For MX record verification I need to mention IP address in TXT record

    For Example: abc.com.  IN TXT "v=spf1 mx a ip4: 203.6.164.5 a: 203.6.164.6 include: 143.8.156.5 -all"

    Is it correct.
