IE does not react to clicks on hyperlinks RRS feed

  • Question

  • Since a couple of days , IE11 (windows 8.1) does not react to clicking on links in a web page. If the link is a http, nothing happens. If the link is a mailto: it does react. So I thought I track it with the developer toolbar to see what is going on. The moment I open the developer toolbar the links do work. Close the toolbar, the links don't work.

'Open in new tab' does work any time.

    https links work as well

http links with a reference to a position on the same page work too like http://kdkd.com/page.htm#abc

I have tried every reset possible in the internet options.

    Any suggestions welcome.

     Thanks

      Ben

  • I tried the reset, that did not work. I did run with -extoff, still links did not work (unless the developer toolbar was open).

I gave up, went back using system restore to some point in the past, and now it is working again.

    Thanks

  • Hi,

According to your description, in my opinion, this problem probably caused by IE 3rd plugin and you can try to open IE with no adds-on mode for test if the problem persists.

Start IE with no adds-on: Open Run, then type iexplore -extoff, then press Enter.

If still no use, please check if you install any app and then the problem occurs.

You can also try to reset IE for test.

Open IE Advanced settings, then choose Reset IE.
