Large Icon option in Windows Start Menu do not apply to "All Programs" only recent items. RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Very straightforward complaint again, I don't have the best eyes and this seems like a really silly omission.
Start menu customisation allows for large icon mode yet doesn't apply to all programs.
If you want us to get used to this new thing while 'stealing' classic from us at least make it readable.

Please apply large icons to all Start Menu entries, if selected.

  • Hello.
This is a bug, not a feature request.

  • This is not a bug, it is operating as intended.  To change that intended operation would be a feature request.

If a user wants all text to be larger, they should use the Desktop Personalization control panel.  The reason: it's very unlikely that a user would want those icon text to be larger but not the rest of the OS.  Are there eyes only bad when looking at the start menu?

  • WHY WOULD THE OPTION SAY LARGE TEXT AND ONLY APPLY IT TO HALF THE TEXT.

Don't go assuming what the user does and does not want, this is ridiculous.
If a user says "my eyes are bad, large please" then make the icons large, this is yet again another case of blind defence of a stupid decision in the operating system, incredibly frustrating.

Thank god for the damn quicklaunch, the start menu is effectively useless now, except for the recently used applications.

  • Hi Scotty

The Start Menu, as you describe it is operating as designed. It is not likely that we will see any major changes to the UI, at this late date in the beta.

If you are having vision problems, there are plenty of tools in the Accessibility Options to solve these problems. Or you can simply reduce the Display Resolution to make everything larger.

And quit talking to yourself.   J

    Hope this helps.

  • Un-acceptable, the icon clearly says large icons and only applies to 50% of the data in the start bar.
Poor UI design, short sighted and ridiculous (as usual!)
What kind of response is "too late in the beta" - the whole damn point is to isolate this stuff.

At least you're honest and polite this time round, the majority of you MVP's on this site are completely and utterly oblivious to flaws, rendering this forum and feedback from experienced users _POINTLESS_

This is the kind of idiocy which caused Vista to get a bad name, if you want to convert us XP holdouts, you need to listen to problems we list which may not even be new to Windows 7, they may have been foolishly added in Vista too.
