Windows XP does not recognize more than 70GB of hard drive space available, How do I fix? RRS feed

  • Installed Windows XP home edition and it partioned my hard drive. Now WIndows says I am out of memory and it does not recognize more than 70GB of hard drive space available, How do I fix?

  • Providing that you're using the NTFS sile system, the maximum partizion size in Windows XP is bigger than 70 GB, so the error message looks very strange.

    Did you try to perform a file system check using the chkdsk command? What about the results?
    And what about the "out of memory" error message? Under which circumstances does it appear?

  • I'm not sure why my reply to Luigi's posting does not show here...  The solution was to delete the hard drive partition and start over with a clean install of Windows XP.  The partition created during the first install must have been corrupted.
