Question regarding CPU per host and Core per VM RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Folks,

    I have a question - a stupid question for you, expert of Windows server 2012 R2 and Hyper-V :))

My physical host is equipped with :

    • 2 x Intel(R) Xeon(TM) Processor 2.7 GHz - 8 Core per CPU
    • 128 Gb RAM

At this time Hyper-Threading is disabled  - because of recommendation for the software that will be installed on 5 Virtual Machine.

I need to host 5 VM  ( on Windows server 2012 R2 too) on the host with a total of 18 Cores and 80Gb.

    OK !

For the memory, I think it's good, I have enough for my 5 VM. But for the Core ?

Talking to an expert on Hyper-V, he tell me that with 16 core on the physical server, I can use 24 Core on my VM ( 1.5x cores count). Is he right ?

Can I installed 5 VM for which I need a total of 18 Cores ?

Can some one confirm ? give me an MSFT article about this topics ?

Thx in advance for your help !
