can a detail project with many tasks summarize percent complete and roll up to a task in another project RRS feed

  • We have a large project that has tasks defined at a rather high level.  The high level tasks are then assigned to PMs that currently verbally assign additional detail work to people who report back to the PM what percent complete they think they are.  The PM then updates the high level task in the project plan.  What we had rather do is build a detail project for the detail work.  Then, we want to roll up the tasks percent complete to a milestone or summary task in the detail project and link it to a high level task in the large project for rollup.  In other words, take the small detail project percent complete summary task and automatically update the big project without having to manually do it.  Can this be done?    (we have project pro 2010 and run project server 2010)

    In the large project, you would need to insert one subproject for each set of detail work you want to track.  The % Complete values from the detail tasks would roll up to the summary task for the subproject, which would then display in the master project.  Hope this helps.
