Microsoft Project 2013 - Need expert help and advise RRS feed

  • Question

  • Dear All,

I would like to kindly ask you to help me on below issue.

I have more than 500 Tasks in my project which built in MS project. Also we have 250 employees to carry out these tasks during next 1,5 years. Each activity has different scheduled dates and we would like to know how many person we need on site during peak point. So here is the question.

Task Name : Painting Pipe Supports

Task dates: 18/06/16 - 24/11/16 (101 days (duration shown by program automatically) - is this only 5 days per week?)

Amount of Pipe Supports 458 EA.

As ONE painter can finish 25EA supports per week - in current situation we need 0,9 Painter on workplace to carry out this task during this time frame. So we would like to program somehow MS Project to tell us how many painter we need incase if we reduce duration (instead of 101 days can be 85 days) and also how many total painters we have to have on plant during 18/06/16-24/11/16 time frame to carry out all activities.

Thank you so much for your comments and advise in advance.

Your help and support are appreciated.

  • This is a quick, rough answer, first thing I thought of and not checked, so no guarantees.

Make task with a duration of 5 days.
Assign one painter resource to it.
Also, make a material type resource called 1 pipe support and assign 25 units of that resource to it.
Copy the task and paste it about 18 times until the total units of 1 pipe support is about 458.
Whatever amount the painter resource is over-allocated by is how many painters you need.
