Windows 8 fails to shutdown after Windows update

We have Windows 8 Professional 64 bit installed. Whenever we update the OS with an Windows update, which requires a restart, the system fails to shutdown.

We have to manually shut down the system, after guessing when an update is complete. And then manually restart the system.

Hi,

Base on my experience, Windows 8 will not shut down after Windows update, but restart instead.

I suggest to perform these tests to troubleshoot the issue:

1 Run chkdsc /r /f and sfc /scannow

2 Reset Windows Update components:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971058

This should also apply for Windows 8

3 Disable firewall and security programs.

This is a serious bug in windows 8 pro I just experienced as well. I ran updates earlier and it suggested to restart to apply updates. I shut down the machine but it restarted anyway. If I had left this and didn't notice it would have cost me all that electricity and is completely unacceptable behavior. Is Microsoft issuing a fix for this?
