MSMQ Domain mode RRS feed

  • Question

  • So i've been trying to install MSMQ on domain on a windows 2008R2 server that is on the domain but is not a domain controller.

I've followed instructions to install MSMQ on a non-domain controller and deleting and old MSMQ stuck on the server in AD.

  • Hi Mike,

    Now I understand your problem.

Based on my research, to install MSMQ in domain mode, there are something need to be noticed:

At first, make sure we install Message Queuing with the Active Directory Integration subcomponent.

Secondly, when MSMQ is being installed, if a dialog box which displays as following:

Setup did not locate a server running Message Queuing that provides directory services, then please select:

Message Queuing will access a directory service

Because if we choose the other one “ Message Queuing will not access a directory service”, the MSMQ will be configured in Workgroup mode.

If the things above are correct, please refer to the following link to solve your problem:

  • Hi Mike,

I’m afraid that  we need more information to solve this problem.

Could you please tell me what’s your final goal?

What kind of problem did the old MSMQ have, have you already uninstalled it? If you didn’t, please uninstall it before installing a new one.

  • So basically what I need the public Queue folder which from what I read is MSMQ working on AD. This is all for a plus for a program that is running on the server. I've tried repeatedly uninstalling and re-installing  MSMQ after everything I tried. Every time I install MSMQ it goes into workgroup mode.

  • So I've followed many articles setting permissions, deleting stale msmq objects. I've finally come to this error reported in event viewer

I've followed this article http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd337491(v=ws.10).aspx I've uninstalled and reinstalled MSMQ since i'm not migrating anything. Upon reinstallation i still get the error. I've noted that when i reinstall MSMQ it sets the reg value for workgroup to 1. I set it to 0, delete the old MSMQ in active directory, and restart the service and still won't join. It also sets the workgroup value back to 1.
