Opening a Powerpoint in Microsoft Sharepoint RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have published a PowerPoint presentation as slide shows (.pps files)
and uploaded in Microsoft Sharepoint. Now when I try to open the
uploaded powerpoint presentation, it should just launch PowerPoint
into the presentation. However, it's opening as a normal PowerPoint
(.ppt) file which is ready for editing, not in presentation mode.
Can anyone suggest a solution for this problem?

  • Hi,

Please try the following Steps and let us know if it works or not .

    Start Registry Editor (Regedt32.exe).
Locate and click the following key in the registry:
    HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.8
Edit or add the following registry value:
    Value name: BrowserFlags
    Data type: REG_DWORD
    Radix: click Hexadecimal
    Value data: 0

The value of a causes the presentation to be opened in edit mode. The value of 8 causes the presentation to be opened in a new window in show mode. The value of 0 or the absence of this registry key causes the presentation to be opened in the browser window in show mode.

  • Workaround is to use the “Send To > Download a Copy > Open” menu sequence to open a .PPSX file in slideshow.

Second work around is to change the registry key mentioned http://support.microsoft.com/kb/299824

    “HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\PowerPoint.Show.12\BrowserFlags”
a = open in edit mode
8 = open in show mode in new window
0 = open in show mode
