Project Professional needs to be installed to open the project RRS feed

  • With MS Project Professional installed, in Project Web App (2013) Project Center, intermittent but frequent problem when either clicking the icon or the drop-down in the ribbon to Open In MS Project for Editing, receive the message “Action Not Available. Project Professional needs to be installed to open the project. Install Project and try again”. Following this message, MS Project Professional often opens OK but not always. When Project fails to open computer has to be restarted to be able to open software. This problem is often accompanied by MS Project (when it does open) freezing-up and unable to close. A computer hard restart is then required. When MS Project does open and does not freeze it functions OK.

    CU May 2016 has been installed and MS Project Professional has been uninstalled and reinstalled neither of which have remedied the problem.

  • Hi Jane,

    I've seen this problem a few times, mainly in Project Online.  It is worth making sure that Project Server is patched to the latest level.  Also, it might be worth checking with a different browser.
