Power Query data RRS feed

  • Question

  • I keep getting this message "SQL0104 - Token . was not valid. Valid tokens: FOR USE SKIP WAIT WITH FETCH LIMIT ORDER UNION EXCEPT OFFSET." when I drag fields to the data pane.  I'm not a SQL knowledgeable person so I don't even know what this means.  Does this have to do with ODBC connection to the source data?  Trying to create power query and power pivot to pull in data and generate reports that refreshes data easily.  Running on 64bit. Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thanks! dutiff.

  • Hi dutiff,

This forum(Excel for Developers) is for development issues related to Excel Object Model and your problem is more related to PowerQuery, so I would move this thread into Power Query forum.
    Thanks for your understanding.
    Best Regards,
    Terry

  • Hi dutiff. Can you elaborate on your scenario? How are you connecting to the data, and what do you mean by dragging fields to the data pane?

  • So, I start out by going to 'From Other Sources' and then "From Microsoft Query'.  Which after that I get a window menu for the database list.
Then I choose the database source; then the table I need on the table list menu and click add.
When I drag the first field on the table to the data pane area (where you drag the field and fill in the criteria to pull records needed), The SQL0104 - Token message appears preventing me to do any further action to bring the data. (Snapshots would help better but it's not allowing me to insert images)

I connect through ODBC and that looks good since I can access the tables.

    Hope this helps.  Thanks!

  • Hi dutiff. The legacy Microsoft Query tool is not part of Power Query (even though the menu organization indicates otherwise), but I'm checking internally to see if we can find someone to help you out.

  • I greatly appreciate your assistance in this issue I have.  I'm hoping that someone can fix it as I'm looking forward to using power query more in my daily task.  It will really make a big difference in compiling reports for peers and managers.

I have a co-worker who uses power query, excel version 2013, and he doesn't have problems pulling in data.

    I'm running excel 2016, windows 10.

    Sincerely,

    dutiff

  • Hi dutiff. If you're wanting to use Power Query for this (instead of Microsoft Query...which is actually a completely different tool), try clicking the following option:

From SQL Server Database in Excel 2016
