Recover Folder in Favorites RRS feed

  • Question

  • One of my users accidentally deleted a folder they had under their Favorites. We use Office 365. Is there a way to restore the actual Folder that got deleted? I was thinking maybe the emails that were in the folder just got moved to Deleted Items but unsure. Any clarification or help? Thank you!

  • Are you talking about Favorites as in the browser Favorites or Favorites in Outlook? Favorites in Outlook are just links to other folders and those folders still should be there unless they delete the folders themselves. If you have Office 365 and they did delete the folder you can access them in the Deleted items. Even if they emptied the Deleted Items you can go in through the Office 365 Admin console and restore deleted files.

Here is the document on how to do that -

    https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/enterprise/recover-deleted-items-in-a-mailbox

You should be able to restore any accidentally deleted mail if you are using Office 365 but if you are talking about browser links then those by default are not backed up by Office 365.

  • Hi ITMgr-WynneTransport,

Agree with CptSternn, when a folder is added to Favorites, it’s a shortcut to the folder. The actual folder and its content remain at the original location in the folder list.

If you remove a folder from Favorites, the original folder in the folder list remains. Deleting a folder from Favorites deletes the folder and its contents from Outlook.

If you accidentally delete the folders, please follow the suggestion above to restore them.

Please remember to choose “Remove from Favorites” to avoid losing data.

If you have further concern, please feel free to tell us.

    Regards,

    Perry
