  • Hi,

In short no. This KB article talks about how the SQL VSS Writer accesses the SQL databases to protect. http://support.microsoft.com/kb/919023.

If you are protecting databases in simple recovery mode or are only doing Express Full backups then DPM is not going to attempt to do any modification of the SQL transaction logs and I expect you would only need the db_datareader database role access for the account that the SQL VSS Writer is running as (usually [NT Authority\System])

If you are protecting databases in advanced recovery mode and are doing sync + Express Full backups then I expect the DPM agent is going to need the permissions to be able to modify the transaction log files, however I'm not 100% sure of this.

There are some posts in the SQL forums that suggest these are the permissions required.

    Server level - PUBLIC ROLE
    Database level - DB_BACKUPOPERATOR .
This is the least privilege to take backups for a database.
