Vista Group Policy For Serial Port Settings? RRS feed

  • Question

Our company uses some old DOS programs that require serial communcation. I have these programs working under an admin account but when I have the user sign in the programs do not work. Are there any group polices that I can use that will free control of the port as these DOS programs require full control.

  • Hello,

Since the software is working under the administrator account, you might perform the following step to narrow down the issue.

    Turn off User Account Control

    1) Login computer with the Administrator account. Click the Windows Pearl (Start Button) in the lower-left corner of the screen-> Control Panel.

    2) Select Classic View on the left and double-click the User Accounts icon.

    3) Click Turn User Account Control on or off option.

    4) Uncheck the User User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer and click OK.

    5) If prompted, choose restart, otherwise restart from the Start Menu.

    Run the software as administrator

Right click the DOS programs execution file and select the Run as administrator option. Test the issue again.

    Good Luck!
