IEAK 9 Custom Toolbar Settings Not Applied RRS feed

  • Question

  • We initially thought this was something caused by GPO, but we have tried the application we built with IEAK 9 on a fresh image which was not joined or connected to the domain and we still have the same problem...

We've configured the application to show the Favorites Bar, Command Bar, etc... after upgrading from IE8 to IE9. No matter how we apply the upgrade (manual local install, SCCM Application Push, SCCM Task Sequence), the toolbars do not show until after an admin has logged on and then logged off the machine.

The big problem with this is that we are going to deploy this to thousands of devices and without these custom settings our Service Desk will be inundated by callers wanting to know where their toolbars went. Sure, it is an easy fix, but we do not want the Service Desk to bear this weight. We are feeling pretty defeated and beginning to wonder if this is normal and we are just trying to go against the grain by not requiring an admin to logon and then logoff before the changes take hold?

  • Hi William_S1,

The favorite bar ,menu bar and the command bar will be shown, only the customed toolbars won`t be shown, right?

According to your description, it seems that the administrator privilage is necessary to make the customed toolbars work.
Have you tried to run the installer with administrative privilage when we tried to install it manually?

We can try to collect related information from the installation log to troubleshot this issue.(C:\Windows\IE9_main.log)

    Best regards

  • Thank you for your reply MeipoXu:

The toolbars you mentioned, Favorite, Menu and Command, are the toolbars we are having the issue with.

I will dig up the log you mentioned from one of our test machines and paste it here later today. Thanks again!

  • Hi William,

I have tried to install an Internet Explorer 9 customed with IEAK and it won`t show the Favorite, Menu and Command Bar by default, too. But we can enable them by right clicking the title bar. Do you get these options?

There are group policies we can have a try.
Computer Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer\Turn on menu bar by default

    Best regards
