Windows 10 HyperV systemstate fails RRS feed

  • Question

  • If I go to Windows 10 and remove it from domain I can configure the Windows7 backup utility.

But when the machine is in the domain DPM-1801 FAILs and Windows 10 won't allow me to configure the backup, saying that I should be Administrator (0x81000010). (but the backup can manually and automatically run in Windows)

DPM failed to create the backup. If you are backing up only System State, verify if there is enough free space on the protected computer to store the System State backup.  On protected computers running Windows Server2008 or above, verify that Windows Server Backup (WSB) is installed and that it is not performing any other backup or recovery task. (ID 30214 Details: Internal error code: 0x80990ED0)

Before I was with Veeam agent, never had this problem. So I thought this is as a DPM thread, not Windows.

Additionally I have to say I have disabled Windows 10 File History by GPO.

Can you help with this error?

  • System State and Bare Metal Recovery (BMR) is unfortunately not supported for Windows Clients.

In general organizations/companies just reinstall the client as it goes nowadays more or less just as quick. The client data is in general stored on network drives (not locally) but this depends on organizations/companies.

As I mentioned above, you can still backup the local files and be able to restore them.

How have you added the Windows Client to the DPM protection group?

  • Hello!

Unfortunately DPM cannot backup system state of a Windows client, it can only perform system state backups of a Windows Server.

This is what DPM 1801 can backup on a Windows 10 client:

    • Volume
    • Deduped volumes
    • Share
    • Folder
    • Files

For more information what DPM can back up, see:

    Best regards,
    Leon

  • So why is it possible to select it ?

    What about BMR for clients?

What's the way to do disaster recovery, install new system and restore volume?

  • Could you describe how you installed the agent on your Windows clients?

Also could you show what you have added to backup on the clients?

  • If you have created a new Protection Group and selected Server, then you will see the the System State option but it will not work, because Windows 10 is a client  and it should be added as a Client.
