Driver Size in C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have noticed that the entire driver repository in MDT gets copied locally to C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository...

Example: If we have over 13GB of drivers all files get copied to the local machine taking up space on the hard drive.

Is it safe to delete the files and anyway to reduce the size of this folder?

  • There are 2 options.  If you have 'Install only matching drivers form the selection profile' selected for your Inject Drivers (in your TS) step and it is copying everything that is a bug.  However if you have 'Install all drivers from the selection profile' then this is doing exactly what you told it to.

Most important details are logs. If you are unsure how to post logs or where to find them then reference https://keithga.wordpress.com/2014/10/24/video-mdt-2013-log-files-basics-bdd-log-and-smsts-log/

  • How about instead of deleting that folder, you setup some proper driver management and only inject what's necessary for each system versus inject every driver in your DS - http://deploymentresearch.com/Research/Post/325/MDT-2013-Lite-Touch-Driver-Management

By default this shouldn't happen.  What method are you using to copy your drivers?

  • Okay good. I selected install all drivers from the selected profile..

I will narrow it down in the future but just double checking.

I appreciate everyone here! This forum is invaluable in my learning.
