TMG future in UAG RRS feed

  • Question

  • So TMG has been depricated, and UAG contains TMG. I installed UAG thinking that was the replacement for TMG, but after reading several threads relating to the two (after getting severely frustrated trying to get UAG to do TMG stuff), I now have no idea what the TMG replacement is.

Is UAG an edge firewall or not? Here's what I want:

    - a firewall

    - ability to publish internal site (in a DMZ), and have user go direct to the site to login

    - ability to publish multiple sites over SSL

    - ability to have a SSTP VPN

    - not have timeout set by the portal

i'm pretty sure TMG did all of that. Can UAG? I have published a couple of SharePoint sites, but the first one is always returned if I try to go direct to the published URL. I always have to login into the UAG portal and cannot go straight to the SharePoint server for authentication (could be I've not configured it correctly).

I want to go back to TMG, but it's depreciated, so how do I get all of this?

    Appreciate any clarification...

  • Hello,

Forefront UAG could make this :

    - a firewall (UAG only protect the published ressources from the OSI layer 1 to 7)

    - ability to publish internal site (in a DMZ), and have user go direct to the site to login

    - ability to publish multiple sites over SSL

    - ability to have a SSTP VPN (deprecated with the SP3 but you could continue to use this feature)

    - not have timeout set by the portal (but not recommanded for security reason)
