DPM Protection group selection RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are trying to use DPM 2010 to backup a couple folders on a hard drive of a server, let say the S drive folder A and folder B.

I created the protection group for the folder A in the S drive, however, I cannot create another protection group for the folder B in the same S drive. e.g. We would like to backup these 2 folders, A on Monday, B on Tuesday.

It allows us to select both folders under the same protection group but not separate protection group. (The check box for backup is missing on the S drive when we create a second protection group)

Is this by design or there is some configurations/settings that can be customized?

  • Hello,

This link may shed some light on your situation.

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc161486.aspx

You cannot include data sources from the same volume in different protection groups.
You can include data sources from more than one volume in a protection group.
Data sources that are members of other protection groups and unprotected data sources that reside on a volume already protected by another Protection group are displayed but cannot be selected.
When you select a parent folder or share, its subfolders are automatically selected and cannot be de-selected.

    Thanks
    Shane
