  • How do I set a task that should take, for example, 10 hours to be completed any time in the time periond 7/16/13 to 8/1/13?

    Although your post title says "fixed work" what you really want is a fixed duration type task. That option can be set up for the whole project (File/Options/Schedule group/Default task type), or it can be set on a task by task basis in the Type field.

    Fixed duration basically says that your 10 hours of work will be linearly spread from 7/16/13 to 8/1/13. If you want something other than a linear spread, you can apply one of Project's built-in work contours or you can manually spread the hours over the duration using one of the Usage views.
