Can DPM 2010 VM backup to TAPE? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I've setup the DPM 2010 running as a VM for my lab. and i want to test it for backup by TAPE but unfortunately i found that the Hyper-v doesn't support to connect directly to HBA card (i've TAPE interface as iscsi).

do you guys have any suggestion for this solution? or should i test it in only physical server?

  • If the tape device is configured as an iSCSI target and is supported as such and you've correctly configured it as well as the initiator settings in the virtual machine then by all accounts you should be able to use the tape device in the VM. Before DPM can use the device it must show up properly in device manager so I'd suggest that you check there first to see if it shows up and is reporting back as functional. As an alternative you could download a virtual tape library (e.g. FireStreamer from Cristalink) in trial form to test with.
