    I was attempting to upgrade my office 2007 software to a 2010 office. I however found out that the 2010 software is not compatible with windows xp and as a result the upgrade was not successful. I have performed a system restore in the hope that I can revert to the 2007 software, but unfortunately the office 2007 will not work now as it appears the Services directory is now corrupted. I'm getting messages regarding set-up controller not being available. I would appreciate any help enable me recover my word documents

    32-bit edition of Office 2010 is supported on Windows XP with Service Pack 3 (SP3).

    Anyway, about the issue with your Office 2007, could you please share the complete error message here with us?

    Maybe try to perform a repair of Office 2007 via Control Panel and see if it will correct the issue:

    1. Just open the Control Panel and locate Add or Remove Programs.
    2. Locate your Microsoft Office install in the list of installed programs.
    3. Select it, then choose Change.
    4. Choose Repair on the next screen and click Continue.
