Agent install issues RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am setting up a VM DPM 2010 RC environment running so far 1x Server 2008 DC
and 1x Server 2008 DPM box, both Standard Edt and x64.

Both machines are clean builds and fully windows updated, neither box is
    running any other applications.

Trying to push Agent out from manager using Domain Administrator credentials
    I get the error:

"Error 303: The protection agent operation failed on <SERVERNAME>.
Error details: A new member could not be added to a local group because the
member has the wrong account type
Recommended action: Review the error details, take the appropriate action,
and then retry the agent operation.

I then try and install the RA Agent manually which is fine and I run
setdpmserver.exe -setdpmserver <SERVERNAME> which completed successfully but
when I try and attach the server to the DPM server either via the Management
Console or using the Attach-ProdutionServer.ps1 command the process fails
    with error:

Make sure that the user name and password you have provided has
administrator privileges on the target computer.

Anyone who can help it'll be greatly appreciated.

    Graham.

  • If you are using a clone machine or image, make sure to perform Sysprep.

  • Hi Graham,

Please review all your network settings and especially DNS, make sure both servers are properly registered with DNS.  It almost sounds like we are hitting different machine than what is expected.

  • Are you using the built-in Domain Admin account?  Did you try with accounts?  Is it in the same domain?  Is firewall service running?

  • Thank you both for your help, DNS appears to be fine. Both servers are shown with the correct details, populated when they were joined to the Domain and I can ping hostnames & FQDNs successfully.

I am using the inbuilt default Administrator account, I haven’t tried creating a new account and making it an admin. Firewalls are off however the service is still Started.

I believe I have managed to resolve the issue however; the VM machines were originally taken from a single clone template and then built separately. Overnight I built a new VM 2008 x64 box from scratch and not from the clone and I have been able this morning to install the protection agent from the new DPM server onto the original DC box. I can only assume this error is a VM problem when creating clone machines?!?!
