  • In a lab environment can we use same SQL instance of SCVMM for DPM or we always need to install a separate instance.

    Although not recommended, in a lab environment, it shouldn't be a problem to use the same SQL instance for both VMM and DPM.
    My recommendation, if you want to run the database on the same SQL server, would be to at least create a separate instance (running on the same virtual or physical SQL server).

    Either way, you can use the following technet article to guide you through the setup of DPM to use a remote SQL server:

    Note that DPM does require the SQL reporting services to be installed, so you will need to either add this service to your existing instance or create a new one.
