  • Hi,

I am conducting some experiments with R and I want to run some scripts in the cloud, so I thought of MRO and Azure. Is ther any simple way to do it ? and is it free ?

  • The easiest way would be to use the Data Science Virtual Machine, which includes Microsoft R (and lots of other good stuff):

    https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/microsoft-ads.standard-data-science-vm (Windows)
    https://azuremarketplace.microsoft.com/en-us/marketplace/apps/microsoft-ads.linux-data-science-vm-Ubuntu (Ubuntu)

There's no software charge, but you do pay Azure infrastructure charges according to the VM type you select. There is a $200 credit available for new Azure subscribers, too.

  • Also, take a look at the doAzureParallel package, which will help you run scripts on an Azure cluster.

  • Thanks David. I didbn't know about DSVM, really cool! However, it seems that I cannot have more than 32 parallel CPUs, I actually want much more (hundreds). Do you think this would be possible, even with the paying options?
