How to color the package entries automatically like Wireshark or Sniffer? RRS feed

  • Question

  • First, thank Microsoft offering us Network Monitor this good utility for free. It's really very powerful. However, I don't know if there is a way that Microsoft Network Monitor can display the package entries with different colors automatically like Wireshark or Sniffer?

e.g. The TCP FIN,ACK packages are displayed as grey background automatically by default in WireShark.

    Thanks very much!

  • Hi,

Please make sure you have the latest parser package from http://connect.microsoft.com/site216/Downloads.  Parser packages contain the color rule sets, so you should see them there in the default menu once you've installed the parsers.

If it still doesn't work after the update, please let us know.

    Thanks,

  • Yes, just click on the Color Rules button there in the Frame Summary Toolbar.  Then you can Open the Troubleshooting set from the Default Set.  It'll give you a set of color rules similar to those found in Wireshark.  We just don't enable them by default for accessibility reasons with Network Monitor.

This feature is also available in the new Message Analyzer Beta as well.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply. However, there are not any submenus in the Deafult Sets for me.

    Thanks,

  • Hi Michael,

Thank you very much for your help. Now I can use the color function after upgrading to the latest parser. And it is really a very good utility. Thank Microsoft offering us this good and free software.

    Thanks,
