    I have running TDA-ThinkorSwim Investing software which experiences periodic performance issues, which reeves the fan or Hard disk then locks up all performance until the TOS performance issue is acknowledged.  TOS uses an internal 7.0 Java.  typical CPU usage is 30-45% but I have seen CPU surging usage as high as 119% with frequency at 132%.  Processing seems to halt, graphics halt or are severely retarded at best.  Using Speedfan software Seeing CPU temps. peak at 85C or 185F. 

    On this higher end and equipped 64 Bit HP Envy Laptop, with a Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-4700MQ CPU @ 2.40GHz, 2401 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s) Machine containing an Intel HD Graphics 4600 card.   

    any suggestions on how to choke off these problems?

    We may be able to gain more information about the issue by running a windows performance recorder trace.
