Task Sequence Error Code (0x800703E5)

    Question

  • Hi All,

I'm having this problem with Task Sequence using SCCM 2012 ZTI. During "Apply Operating System Image", I always encounter this error

"Task Sequence: Deploy2 has failed with error code (0x800703E5). For more information, contact your system administrator or helpdesk operator"

I am using a reference image that I have previously captured using a different MDT server.

I'm stuck with this and can't find a solution.

    Please help?

    Thank you!

  • Some web searches for the error indicates that it may be an issue with windows or some missing component. Can you recapture the image after removing the Bing Travel App ? Also, what OS are you installing?

Is there anything useful in smsts.log?

  • Thanks for replying!

Well, I see searched for "error" and "fail" and I see 2 things:

    • A lot of "Failed to open Software\Microsoft\Sms\Mobile Client\Software Distribution registry key"
    • 401 - authentication failure on request with anonymous access

When I search for the specific error code in SMSTS.log (0x800703E5), it is not written in the log.

    Edit:

If it's a bit of help, what I did was copy paste my .wim reference image to my ConfigMgr server then placed it in a shared folder. Could it possibly mean a corrupt .wim?

    Edit 2:

Ok, I found the part where it errors. I missed it earlier. Here it is:

I am not sure why it errors at BingTravel... Is it corrupt?

  • Thanks for replying Moiz.

It was a corrupt .wim file. I recaptured and recopied it and it worked.

    Thanks!

  • I'm having the same problem deploying Windows Vista Business w/ SP1 (x64) from Dell installation media.  I copied the wim directly from the disk and I get this error message.  I'm in the process of downloading Vista w SP2 from technet and am going to retry it with that wim.

  • I gave up becasue the WIM from technet contained all Vista versions and I didn't feel like figuring out how to make it install Business.
