Internet Explorer 8 Add-on problem

I am currently working on a Windows Server 2003 R2 standard. I have done a lot of adjustments in both the domain Group Policy GPO and in the local registry.

When I attempt to go to Windows Update to get updates, that site want to download and install an add-on to update the Windows Update software. That message " An add-on for this website failed to run. Check the security settings in Internet options for potential conflicts".

I tried running IE8 under the Safety button. didn't work.

I would like to know what in both the Registry and GPO could be causing this problem.

Seems like the Internet Explorer security settings did not allow it. I usually temporarily turn off Internet Explorer Enhanced Security to do Windows Update, turn it back on when update is done. Or, you can add Windows Update site to Security Zone. See how:

What is exact message in Event logs. In addition to this look into WindowsUpdate.log for problems with update.
