Upgrade from WSS 3.0 SP1 to SharePoint Foundation 2010 some questions RRS feed

  • Question

  • Production Environment:

Currently have Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 32-bit which runs WSS 3.0 with SP1.  The SharePoint Databases are installed on our SQL Server which is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64 bit), version 10.0.5500.0.  Also the Operating system used for our SQL server is Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1.

    Test Environment:

Currently have Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1 (64 bit) which runs SharePoint Foundation 2010 sp1.  The Databases for it are installed on our test environment SQL server which is Microsoft SQL Server Standard Edition (64 bit), version 10.0.5500.0.  Also the Operating system used for our SQL server is Windows Server 2008 R2 sp1.

I would like to copy the DataBases from the production environment and move them to the test network, attach them to the test network SQL database and bring up the SharePoint Foundation 2010, and have users try the new version and also see how the upgrade process would go.

Does anyone know if this is possible?  The production environment and test network environment have different passwords and usernames and IP configurations.

    Thanks.
