How to disable compatibility mode. RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am 82 and my short term memory is awful so I find it difficult to follow instructions. My computer is very slow and also fails to respond frequently. I purchased a dvd to deal with these problems but now I am inundated with error messages saying this programme is running in compatibility mode. I am unable to use the programme and have to constantly click on the error message to remove it from the screen and I purchased this all in one computer only recently. Is it possible for Cortana to guide me through the solution?

  • Compatibility mode cannot be disabled, just turned off.

For your scenario, I suggest to execute a clean boot, then run your program via right-click and choose Run as Administrator.

To perform a clean boot in Windows 10:

Press the "Windows + R" key to open a Run box.

    Type msconfig and click OK.

On the General tab, click Selective startup.

Clear the Load startup items check box.

    Click the Services tab.

Select the Hide all Microsoft services check box (at the bottom).

    Click Disable all.

    Click the Startup tab.

    Click Open Task Manager.

On the Startup tab, right-click each enabled startup item and select Disable.
