Recover shortcuts' names pointing to exe programs RRS feed

  • General discussion

  • Hello,

I would like to recover the shortcuts' names pointing to executable programs on the desktop of each user (C:\Users\xxx\Desktop). The computer is running Windows 10.

Can we use a wildcard rather than a username as this would avoid entering each username (which may vary over time).

How can I do this with PowerShell ?

    Thanks for your help.

Actually no but you could move those shortcuts to the profile "PUBLIC". The shortcuts would appear on all desktops then.

You use Get-ChildItem with the appropriate filter to collect the desired shortcuts and use Move-Item to move it to the desired folder.
