Deploying FCS vis GPO RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have a vbscript which will uninstall Symantec and then install FCS on client machines, this works fine when run as an admin user on XP and Win7, both 32 & 64bit.  I created a GPO to run this as a startup script, and this will work fine for XP clients but Win7 machines will not run the script.  The script calls to a DFS location for the installation files for FCS

As it is a startup script I believe it runs as the system account and therfore UAC would not be involved.  Running GPresult shows that the policy has been applied, and that it can see the script.

I rans psexec as a user and the script ran, running psexec -s however shows an access denied error.  i have checked the permissions on the DFS share and Domain computers has full access and the share security is everyone full control.

What I am confosed about is why it affects WIN7 and not XP?

Any ideas what is going wrong ?

    Dave

  • Hi Dave,

Please check if you have followed the steps mentioned in the following article:

    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc770556.aspx

In addition, I suggest you could use Forefront Client Security Deployment Tool. It is a free toolkit provides additional deployment capabilities in addition to those which are available with the RTM Version of FCS . This tool gives network and security administrators the ability to scan their network and/or AD, discover existing installed Anti-Virus solutions (currently supporting Mcafee, Symantec and Trend-Micro) that are already installed on their clients, uninstall existing AV solution and install FCS Client – all in one.

    Hope this helps.

  • Why you install FCS by vbscript ?? you do not have to do that , Just you can install WSUS and just check forefront client security and it will install to all clients and get the latest update automatically

    thanks
