Cloning normal HDD with OS onto SSD - will TRIM be activated when booted from that SSD? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello.

If Windows 7 on normal HDD cloned to a SSD and then booted from that SSD, will Windows 7 detect that it's on SSD and activate TRIM support?

The situation I'm in is that I don't have at the moment SSD, but need setup this new box for a friend, so I've installed W7 on normal HDD for now, later when SSD become available I'll move everything to the SSD.

  • Hi,

Based on my knowledge, Windows 7 could detect that it's on SSD.

And I wonder how you clone the data from HDD to SSD? Since a simple cloning may copy the hardware information to the target disk, such as ghost. It may cause a unexpected problem. So we don’t recommend you to do that.

    Thanks for understanding
