Urgent Help needed: Security Lapse in all ProClarity reports RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi All,

       We have installed proclarity6.3 on a 64-bit machine using System\username. We have set up kerberos in our enviroment. All the ProClarity reports are not filtering according to the role. There is a security lapse. All other reports i.e. PPS and SSRS reports are filteriing. Our problem is that we are not able to set the "Cubes Use OLAP security" property in ProClarity administration tool. Whe we log into Proclarity administraton tool we get the following error message "Invalid at the top level" . So is there an alternate way where we can mention or force the ProClarity reports to use Cube Roles security?? If no how to resolve this issue?? Please let me know ASAP as it is a critical issue.

    Thanks and regards,
    Ram

  • Thanks for posting this Ram. I can see that you have installed SP2 for PAS however for some reason the PStore.asp file was not updated.  You'll want to try doing that yourself to fix the 'XML document..' error.  The PDC log also shows you have some 6.1 bits mixed in there, and that is defiantely not something you want.  Considering the 6.1 files that are showing up I recommend uninstalling all ProClarity software on that machine, deleting the ProClarity directories at c:\program files\, c:\program files\common files\ and the PAS directory at c:\inetpub\wwwroot.  After those folders are gone, reboot and reinstall PAS + SP2.

  • Hi Sean,

        Thanks a lot for the reply and support. We solved by registering the dll to which were of 6.1 version.That fixed our problem. Thanks once again.

  • Hi Ram,

    What you'll want to do for this is install SP2 for PAS.  That should fix the XML error you are seeing and allow you to re-enable PAS security:

    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=d819745e-987c-468f-bf9c-feebf4a81ec1

    In the interim you could completely disable cachine by un-commenting the line 'Cache.HitRate = 0' in the global.asa file.  This effectively disables the caching engine.

    HTH,
    Sean

  • Hi Sean,

      Thanks a lot for the reply.

       We have installed SP2 now,restarted the server and ran the Diagnostic tool. It has updated to SP2. But the same error exists. I tried re-registering the server with FQDN. But still no luck. Also i have followed the http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/proclarity/thread/3f697c73-453b-4d3f-b86a-2c214ab845bb/
    to fix the invalid at the document. But no luck.Any other suggestions??

    Thanks and regards,

  • In that case what you'll want try is removing 3 lines from ProClarity.asp file.  Please see this thread for more info:

  • Unfortunately those are the only simple solutions I know of.  You might try re-installing ProClarity, re-installing and creating a new database and installing on another server to the same database.  For the re-install you'll want to remove all ProClarity software and then delete the ProClarity folder at c:\program files\common files\, then re-install followed by SP2.  If you're in a bind you might consider opening a case to work with an engineer directly on this one.

  • Hi Sean,

         Thanks a lot for the reply. I will try re-installing the software. This might be the last option.Just to confirm one more thing , is the "Cubes use OLAP security" property checked by default when we install proclarity?? or should we manually go and check it. Please let me know.

    Thanks and regards,

  • The default setting is that the "cubes use OLAP security" box is checked.

  • Ram, would it be possible for you to open the file 'pstore.asp' located at inetpub\wwwroot\pas, copy the contents and paste them here in a post?

  • Hi Sean,

       Thanks a lot for the continued support. Sean just to give you more details we have enabled kerberos in our environment. We have used PPS,SSRS and ProClarity reports. PPS and SSRS reports are working fine and are filtering according to the role. Only proclarity reports are not working. AS a workaround we have enabled basic authentication for PAS. So the user has to enter the credentials once when he clicks on the proclarity reports. But if we dont enable basic authentication and use integrated windows the proclarity reports are not filtering according to the role. Not able to guess whats happening. We have ran the SQLprofiler on SSAS and its able to pass the credentials.No where we can see anonymous in the audit login and log out.

  • The hotfix that addresses the XML issue you are seeing updates the pstore.asp file.  It looks like you have the RTM version and not the updated one.  You might want to generate a PDC log and post the results here for that so we can take a look..  To generate a PDC log you'll want to go to Start>All Programs>ProClarity>ProClarity Diagnostic Utility>Analyze

    The problem described sounds in-line with the 'cubes use OLAP security' setting being unchecked.  What you'll want to try next is backup the original and manually update the PStore.asp file.  I will list below what the file should look like after the hotfix.

    PStore.asp updated:

    <%@ Language=VBScript CodePage=65001%>
    <%
    '<!--PStore.asp-->
    '<!--Copyright © 1999-2005 ProClarity Corporation. All rights reserved. U.S. Patent No 6,167,396. Foreign patents pending.-->
    %>

    <%
    	' Set the CodePage and CharSet to UTF-8 for XML SOAP transfer
    	On Error Resume Next
    		' IIS 5.0 does not support setting the code page on the response object
    		Response.CodePage = 65001
    	On Error goto 0
    	Response.CharSet = "utf-8"
    	Response.ContentType = "text/xml"
    	Response.CacheControl = "No-cache"
    	Response.Expires = 0

    	Dim IsWsdl 'As String
    	Dim testFoo
    	IsWsdl = Request.QueryString
    	If strComp(IsWsdl, "WSDL", vbTextCompare) = 0 Then
    		Dim fso, filePath, fileStream

    		Set fso = Server.CreateObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject")
    		filePath = Server.MapPath("PStore.wsdl")
    		Set fileStream = fso.OpenTextFile(filePath, 1)

    		Response.Write fileStream.ReadAll
    	Else
    		PListener.ProcessRequest Request, Response, Session
    	End If

  • Hi Sean,

         Thanks a ton for your continued support. Please take a look at the log file. So now i need to manually update manually the pstore.asp file. Or should i install the latest version of proclarity 6.3 SP2? I went through the code. It looks like we have to add 23 lines in the pstore.asp file which we removed as suggested by martin in the blog http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/proclarity/thread/3f697c73-453b-4d3f-b86a-2c214ab845bb/
