Windows 10 1511 ADMX Templates with LTSB?

  • Is there any benefit to upgrading Group Policy ADMX templates to the 1511 version if our Windows 10 systems are LTSB with is based on Windows 10 build 10240?  Do any of the new group policies in the updated template apply to LTSB build 10240?

Do the 1511 ADMX templates have bug fixes that correct the missing or broken files in the original Windows 10 ADMX template download from this summer?

  • There seems to me, to be very few changes,at all.

I did a basic FileCompare, against the ADMX/ADML download I grabbed in September, and the 1511 download I grabbed just now.
Two "troublesome/duplicated" files have been removed from the 1511 download:

    C:\Users\Don>fc /a /w "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Group Policy\Windows 10 20150908\PolicyDefinitions\*.admx" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Group Policy\Windows 10 Version 1511\PolicyDefinitions\*.admx" > fcdiff2.txt
FC: cannot open C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT GROUP POLICY\WINDOWS 10 VERSION 1511\POLICYDEFINITIONS\microsoft-windows-geolocation-wlpadm.ADMX - No such file or folder
FC: cannot open C:\PROGRAM FILES (X86)\MICROSOFT GROUP POLICY\WINDOWS 10 VERSION 1511\POLICYDEFINITIONS\parentalcontrols.ADMX - No such file or folder

The actual FileCompare outputs, seems to show mostly some blank lines add/removed, there are a small quantity of changes, but, I don't know if any of those are particularly relevant to LTSB (since I don't use LTSB and never expect to need it in my enterprise).

    FC for ADMX =
    FC for ADML =

Maybe you can take a look at these output/logs and tell us? :)

Don [doesn't work for MSFT, and they're probably glad about that ;]
