  • I have been following this document, however it does not help me determine why the next button is greyed out.

We are using A Netapp FAS and have installed the SMI Provider agent on a separate machine connected to the Array. We can talk to the agent and get a reply from the SCVMM server when we try to add the Storage Device, we are unable to because on the " Specify Discovery Scope " page .. the Next button is greyed out.

  • I just checked the Windows update list and did not find that Specific KB Number. I also searched the registry and windows directory for that number and was not able to find it. I am using Windows Server 2012. Is there any other place to look or perhaps a different number when it is installed on 2012?

  • Hello Apazman, could you let us know which version of VMM you are running (including the last update rollup you installed for VMM)?

Christian, could you provide the same please?

You guys seem not the only one, we are trying to pass this on to MS backend.

  • Bob,

I just ran into this same problem and was able to resolve it by removing the four KB articles that Apazman referenced (Thanks a million Apazman!!!).  We're running VMM 2012 SP1, Version 3.1.6020.0, Update Rollup 2.  If you need any additional information let me know.  MS really needs to fix this one, now I have to make sure our SCCM Admin doesn't re-push those four KB's.

  • PowerShell Workaround - Removing the 4 Security updates also fixed this issue for me. But the following PS also works, even with the updates applied. (I'm still new at doing PS, so please take this code as an example only).

    $RunAsAccount = Get-SCRunAsAccount -Name "{Admin}"
    $ProviderName = "{ShortName} iSCSI SMI-S"
    $ComputerName = "{FQDN}"
    Add-SCStorageProvider -AddSmisWmiProvider -ComputerName $ComputerName -Name $ProviderName -RunAsAccount $RunAsAccount
    Update-StorageProviderCache -DiscoveryLevel Full -Name $ProviderName

  • Have uninstalled all mentioned updates and also tried the script, none of which is making the boxes be un greyed out or installing our HP P2000 into VMM 2012 SP1 RU3

  • Any update about this issue? Removing those four updates did not solve my problem.
    I have rollup 3 installed.

  • I'm in the same boat as MaartenMJ, all four updates uninstalled, I also have UR3. Was running UR2, then uninstalled the four updates, didn't work, updated to UR3...still doesn't work.

  • sorry, I don't know the version we were running at this time. But you may assume, that I looked for an update in the first place, so it was most certainly the most up to date version, when I posted this.

  • So I just uninstalled KB2840632 (not KB2840642 as mentioned below) for .NET 4.5 framework security fix...and no reboot, and I am on SCVMM 2012 SP1 on 2012 R2 and it worked like a charm!

  • @dupre29 -

    Thanks for the tip - I also uninstalled KB2840632 (not KB2840642) and without a reboot - it's working now. I am on SCVMM 2012 SP1 RU3 on Windows Server 2012 (Not R2).

    Much appreciated!
