Security - How to map new user with permissions? RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have one application, where I have number of groups for different sites and site collections.

I have to replace one user, wherever he existes with other one, in all applications with roles.

Is there any best practice for this problem?

My user is not allowing thrd party tools.

  • Hi Gem,

Are you inheriting permissions from parent site ? or there is a unique permission assigned on all sub sites / site collections ?

If you are using unique permission on all sub sites / site collection then just replace that user by deleting it from the sub site/ site collection.

But if you are inheriting permission from Top level site then it will delete the user from all locations.

  • GEM, if you're limited to OOTB solutions, and you can download MS PowerShell for your instance, you *could* create a script to wander through your site collections and sites, looking for that user, and replacing them with a new user where found, keeping in mind if the site you're on is inheriting or not.

This way, using the scripting engine, navigating through the site collections and sites is relatively simple.

Also, PowerShell is free as a download (and if you're running 2008 R2 you've PowerShell 2.0).
