script to search and remove registry entries RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am new to scripting, but I have to remove references to a program in the registry of 50 machines. It takes about 20 minutes per machine to do it manually at this point and would like to find a script that will search the entire registry, report to me the entries and allow me to remove them. Can anyone help me with this?

  • There are a number of freeware registry searchers, such as

You could also create a batchfile using REG.EXE ie a sequence of REG DELETE commands

    REG DELETE \\<COMPUTER>\HKLM\Software\String /va /f
    REG DELETE \\<COMPUTER2>\HKLM\Software\String /va /f

This would probably be more efficient than scripting.
