Exchange 2010 Journaling and no Microsoft Outlook sender? RRS feed

  • Question

  • In our Exchange 2007 environment when setting up journaling we would use the only accept messages from "Microsoft Outlook" on the journal rule target mailbox so that e-mails sent to all mailboxes would not end up in our Journaling Mailboxes.   We are now also running Exchange 2010 and are setting up the journaling rules in both environments but I am not able to set "Microsoft Outlook" as a "Accept messages from" section in Message Delivery Restrictions.

Do I need to do something to get "Microsoft Outlook" to show up as a sender I can select in this option or did this functionality go away?

    Thanks....

  • Hi,
A Transport Rule like the below will give you the result you want:

    If the message:
    Is sent to 'Journaling@domain.com
Take the following actions: Delete the message without notifying the recipient or sender

...and yes, the mailbox will still get the journaling messages.

Note: Since you have both Exchange 2007 and Exchange 2010, don't forget that you will need to make changes for Journaling and Transport Rules twice (=in both versions)
