Local Area Connection: Cable showing as unplugged RRS feed

  • Question

  • hi...

I am so very not hi-tech so please excuse my lack of terminology etc.

My Realtek RTL8168C(P)/8111C(P) Family PCI-E Gigabit Ethernet NIC shows as enabled and that the device is working properly. However I can't connect to the Local Area Connection because I get a "Network Cable Unplugged" message.  The cable is definitely plugged in.  I have gone out and bought a new cable just in case and get the same message.  Everything was working fine until my Laptop automatically updated with the Windows Update - I don't even know what was updated as I always just click yes when the "New Updates are Available" message flashes.

I was running off my WiFi but now that doesn't even work properly so am desperately trying to get the cable thing working again.

Any help please before I have to resort to taking it to my local computer tech to get fixed?
