BITS and throttling by subnet

Question

Is there a way to set BITS limits by subnet (or use the fast / slow boundry settings)? I'd like all my LAN clients to either not use BITS at all or use it unthrottled, while my WAN clients always use BITS since they are on slow links. On the Computer Client Agent Properties BITS tab, the "apply to branch distribution points and all clients" option looks like it's one or the other.Monday, November 16, 2009 5:55 PM

You could go that route if there's no download for scenario 1 needed:
LAN -> fast boundaries -> Run from DP (no download at all; SMB)
WAN -> slow boundaries -> Download & execute (using BITS)- Proposed as answer by John Marcum Tuesday, November 17, 2009 2:40 AM

You can configure the BITS settings in a GPO and place a WMI filter on it. Another way to control it is by using the ConfigMgr SDK - http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc146581.aspx

We have the same issue over here. Currently we place the slowest link as the default BITS limit through GPO. (that becomes a problem if we will be using App-V through SCCM).
So making a correct difference between WAN vs. LAN through WMI filtering is something I would like to have more info on (as I'm also not familiar with wmi filtering).
As far as boundaries are concerned , we link to AD (now that is 1 OU per site) so to make the difference between lan/wan there I suppose we have to split that somehow in Active Directory.
Thanks for posting this question.
