Does DPM flag unchanged files during backup?

    Question

  • Hi!

I have been working with DPM for some time, but I was wondering how it really works when backing up files in Windows.

    The question:

Does DPM put any flag on the files, let's say unchanged files (cold files)?

Or does DPM only check what's been changed and do a backup on those files?

We have a project about implementing StorSimple solution and that's why I would be very interested to know.

    Awaiting your response!

    Best regards,
    Leon

Answers

  • DPM agent tracks changes to files using a file system filter. All data writes pass through the filter allowing DPM to identify blocks that changed and need to be synchronized. It does not use "flags" or file attributes when identifying changes.
