Previous Install Pending Upgrading 2007 CCR to SP3 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm upgrading our 2007 CCR to SP3.  The CAS/HT servers both upgraded with no issues.  The passive CCR node failed with the following error in the setup logs:

    Line 277: [10/22/2014 2:34:54 PM] [2] [ERROR] Unable to remove product with code 6574fdc2-40fc-405a-9554-22d1ce15686b. Another installation is already in progress.  Complete that installation before proceeding with this install. Error code is 1618.

    Digging through setup logs on the active node I found that SP2 had not fully installed.

    Line 21073: [9/20/2012 1:58:20 PM] [2] [ERROR] Clustered mailbox server 'EX2K7-CCR-MBOX' is not in an started (online) state (Failed). The cluster resource 'Mailbox Recovery Storage Group/Faculty Database (EX2K7-CCR-MBOX)' is in state (Failed).

    Line 21082: [9/20/2012 1:58:20 PM] [0] The Exchange Server Setup operation did not complete. For more information, visit http://support.microsoft.com and enter the Error ID.

    I had to use ADSI edit to remove the Recovery Storage Group.  But, it has been successfully removed.  My intended resolution is to re-install SP2 on the active node (after moving the cluster making it the passive node).  My question is will this remove the ERROR 1618 failure on the first node I attempted to upgrade or will I need to manually remove the registry watermark?

  • Hi,

    The error 1618 means that you have another installation in progress, you need to complete it before you upgrade to Exchange 2007 SP3.

    If you install Exchange 2007 SP2 successfully, the error should disappear.

  • Open Registry Editor,

    expand -> HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\SessionManager

    Highlight session manager and locate a key PendingFileRenameOperations.

    Check if you have text in that key. if you do, take a backup of that registry and remove that PendingFileRenameOperations and resume Exchange 2007 setup and it should work.

    Please revert by replying the outcome!
