No 5.1 Sound with Vista/WMP 11 RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm sure this was a common issue, so hopefully its been answered before, I just can't find the answer that suits my situation.

I get no 5.1 sound from WMP 11 or any sound app, not even DVDs with 5.1, just stereo..

    *Using Sigmatel 9220 onboard soundcard.

*I have all connections hooked up correctly.

*I have the 5.1 setting under Windows and can individually test each speaker and my subwoofer.

*Have latest driver from manufacturer (Gateway).

    *Have Windows Vista Ultimate

I have tried installing AC3 Filter 1.50a, but it only helps for files, like avi, mp4...etc, but not DVDs.

Shouldn't Vista just play everything that is 5.1 in 5.1? I can understand mp3s but what about 5.1 DVDs ?

Vista is turning out to be the ULTIMATE dissapointment... so many issues Sad

    Thanks in advance.

  • Yeah well thanks alot everybody....

Just incase anybody is wondering , Vista, even the Ultimate edition, needs codecs for 5.1, even though XP did not.

This is because of some Vista flaw ("redesign"), something about Vista not being able to hack it on its own... pathetic...

    Read about it here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/925901

Well I've downloaded the Vista Codec Pack by Shark007.

It gave me 5.1 with DVDs and all media files except for MP3s...MP3s still stereo.

If anyone's interested, the Vista Codec Pack can be found here: http://shark007.net/

Anyone know of plugin or something that will upmix stereo MP3s to 5.1?
