Office 2010 breaks Snipping tool, Windows Journal RRS feed

  • Question

  • After installing Office 2010 Professional Plus the snipping tool fails and Windows Journal fails to open.  Tried uninstalling and reinstalling Office 2010, unistalled 2010 and tried to run when office was removed but it still fails.  The only way to fix it as of now is to reinstall my copy of Office 2007.  Once I upgrade back to 2010 they fail again.

My OS is Windows 7 64-bit running Office 2010 32-bit.

  • After opening a call with Microsoft on this and working for many hours, we finally have a solution, it's a registry setting that somehow is deleted after uninstalling Office.  Import this key back into the registry, log off and back on and snipping tool will be working again!

  • The functions of the snipping tool and Windows Journal are duplicated and extended in OneNote. You may like to try using that.

  • I looked at that but when I try to use the drawing tools I get a message "Tablet drivers are not installed on the system. You must install them to enable Tablet Features."

  • Drawing tools work fine for me without tablet drivers.

Are you working on a tablet PC, touch screen or with a separate digitiser? Do those functions work OK? Are there any yellow exclamation marks shown in Device Manager?

Have you tried repairing or reinstalling Office 2010?

  • No, my PC is a Dell OptiPlex 960 desktop, I don't have a touch screen.  Also no yellow exclamations marks in device manager.

Tried running the repair on Office 2010 and reinstalling a few times but as noted before, when I uninstall 2010 and install Office 2007 the Snipping tool and Windows Journal work again.

I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the Tablet PC Components for Windows 7.

  • Is that really the answer?

Q: "Office 2010 breaks this functionality in Windows"
    A: "Uninstall Office 2010"

Can we not do better than that?

  • I am experiencing the exact problem.  The onenote 2010 snipping tool works but the windows 7 ultimate snippingtool fails with office 2010 installed.  Any progress from anyone getting a resolution to this?

  • Has anyone found a resolution to this? I've been working on it all day on two different workstations... nothing is working. Starting to get concerned with office 2010, I had been planning on rolling it out to several customer. Not so sure anymore.

  • So after screwing around with this for hours, I tried turning UAC off, and the snipping tool started working as normal.

I don't like this as a permanent solution, any ideas what's going on?  Permissions on something need to be fixed?

  • The above solution did not help.  I am having a similar problem on only one of my machines.  With MS Office 2007 and 2010 Preview installed (as with other machines), OneNote's Drawing Pens (styles only, not shapes) causes the mouse to lock-up. And OneNote spits-out an error dialog that says "Tablet drivers are not installed on the system. You must install them to enable Tablet features."

I discovered that a the moment I click one of the Pen features, Windows launches a 2nd "WispTis.exe" process (one in all CAPS and one lowercase).  Once the mouse locks-up, I can use the keyboard to shut-down either of the two WispTis.exe processes at which time everything functions normally except the Pens features are grayed-out inside of OneNote...

Please help me resolve the duplicate WispTis.exe processes.  Thanks in advance.

  • WORKED PERFECTLY!

Copy and paste this next into a blank NotePad.

      00,00,00,00,00,05,20,00,00,00,20,02,00,00

Save the NotePad file as a .reg file, not a .txt file.  Call it something like mladyraven.reg, or fred.reg, or anything.reg.  Don't save it as .txt, and don't save it as .txt.reg, just save it as a .reg.   When you have a .reg file just right-click on it and take the "Merge" option.  This will merge it into your Registry.

    BUMP

Only this worked for me! Thanks a bunch!

To add a note, in notepad, you can save as ANSI. make sure to include the header line "Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00" (learned by trial and error) see <g class="gr_ gr_222 gr-alert gr_gramm gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim Grammar only-ins doubleReplace replaceWithoutSep" data-gr-id="222" id="222">post</g> by "<g class="gr_ gr_232 gr-alert gr_spell gr_inline_cards gr_run_anim ContextualSpelling" data-gr-id="232" id="232">hellojoe</g>" in this post.

Be sure to "log off" and back on again!!!!
