PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer Connection Error for some SharePoint Lists RRS feed

  • Question

  • The PerformancePoint Server could not connect to the specified data source. Verify that either the current user or application pool user has Read permissions to the data source, depending on your security configuration. Also verify that all required connection information is provided and correct.

    Hi all,

I get the above error while creating a Data Source based on some of custom SharePoint Lists in a SiteCollection. It works perfectly fine for some other custom lists in the same Site collection.

I tried to find out the differernces between the Lists that work and that which does not. But couldnt really find any.

Has anyone faced a similar error. Please help... have to make a pending design decision based on if there is a solution to this.

    Please help...

    Thanks in Advance

  • Hi PV,

Here are some things you might look at for the lists that don't work:

    1. Are there any "restricted" fields (fields where the user has to select a value from a list of values) that have a lot of choices?  For example, an "Owner" field where you pick a user name, and there are many choices (thousands)?
    2. Is there a large number of fields?
    3. Are there any "Note" fields, where the amount of text is basically unlimited?

The above can sometimes cause problems due to the size of the data that is returned when the list is processed.

  • Hi PV,

Please take a look into Microsoft PerformancePoint Server Team Blog http://blogs.msdn.com/performancepoint/archive/2007/07/12/security-considerations-for-monitoring-server.aspx for details.

  • the list has around 15 columns including Choice, Look-up and Person fields.
I deleted the list and created it again and everything worked fine :)
